Department of Sociology

Congratulations to the Sociology Green Team who have once again earned the highest recognition in the annual NUS Green Impact Awards!

Despite the disruption of the pandemic, our committed team worked hard to submit their workbook and participate in the remote audits to showcase their work, which was recognised with a Gold award. The Department is especially proud that despite all the additional pressures and competing priorities, our Green Team remained determined to follow through on their agenda to help to make the University more sustainable.

The auditors were particularly impressed with how the team "linked environmental actions with social engagement", highlighting the winter food drive for local food banks, the new sharing shelf in the staff fridge, and the communal vegetarian lunches, as well as the use of a survey and suggestion box to engage people in the wider department.

Both Sean Scinta and Heather Stallard joined the EEC network this year and helped the exisiting team members to submit a high level of evidence to the auditors despite the lockdown.

Unfortunately the team won't be able to recieve a physical award slate for some time, but congratulations again to our team for their effort and achievement, for volunteering their time, and for their dedication to making the Department and the University a more sustainable place.
