"Cambridge attracts some of the most driven, brightest people I’ve ever met and because of that, it’s an inspiring place to study."

I came to Cambridge initially to do the MPhil in Latin American Studies and fell in love with the university. Cambridge attracts some of the most driven, brightest people I’ve ever met and because of that, it’s an inspiring place to study. It has been a challenge to push myself to reach the high academic standards here, but I know that I’ll graduate a better researcher for having done so.

Any PhD at Cambridge, including the Sociology PhD, will test your commitment and resolve. I normally describe it to prospective students as a three to four-year independent study. You must be self-organised and self-motivated but should ask for help when you need it. I would say that those who apply for the PhD because they have burning research questions they believe they can answer, versus any other reason for applying, will fare the best in the program.
