Outreach and Communications Coordinator (Part Time, Fixed Term)

Department of Sociology

The Department of Sociology is seeking to appoint a suitably qualified individual to work as an Outreach and Communications Coordinator (part time).

The role holder will be employed as part of the core administrative support team within Sociology. The Department of Sociology is one of the four departments within the Faculty of Human, Social and Political Science, alongside the Departments of Archaeology, Social Anthropology and POLIS (Politics and International Studies). The Department of Sociology currently has 55 staff overall, including academic, research and support staff.

The main duties of the role will cover all areas of communications and outreach activities for the department and will involve a substantial amount of developing new initiatives. The role holder will focus on the dissemination and promotion of the world class teaching and research in the Department, and on encouraging interest from prospective students in its courses. The role encompasses five main areas:

(1) Website work- developing and improving the existing site and ensuring it is up to date with the latest Departmental/Tripos information at all times.
(2) Communications, publicity and press work: to support, co-ordinate and deliver the Department's communications with the aim of promoting the department both within and outside the University. This will include the use of social media as well as printed material and the website.
(3) Outreach work, initiating new outreach activities and events to increase the visibility of Cambridge Sociology with A Level students and teachers and taking on the coordination of existing outreach activities alongside other departments within the Faculty of HSPS.
(4) Event organisation, organising events such as public lectures, a conference and other events linked to the anniversary of the department.
(5) Alumni relations, developing a stronger link to Sociology alumni and keeping them informed about news from the department.

The role holder may also be asked to undertake other duties in other sections of the Department and Faculty, as appropriate.

Fixed-term: The funds (salary: £25,728-£29,799 pro rata) for this post are available for 30 months in the first instance.
