Launch of the National Student Survey (NSS) 2017

& details of the Prize Draw

What is the NSS?

The NSS is a national annual survey of mostly final year undergraduates in the UK. The survey provides you with an opportunity to provide honest feedback on what you liked and did not like about your learning experience during your time at Cambridge. Your response will be anonymous.

How do I take part?

During the week of 9 January 2017, eligible* students will be sent an invitation email to complete the survey by Ipsos MORI. You can complete the NSS online or via a mobile device at The survey closes on 30 April 2017.

Prize Draw

To encourage participation, the University is offering one iPad Air, one iPad Mini, and three £50 cash prizes. The prize draw results will be announced after the survey closes on 30 April 2017.

Cambridge’s results are considered in detail by the University centrally, at Faculty Boards and Teaching Committees, and by the Colleges. It provides us with an indication of what we are doing well and what areas could be improved.

The results are also relevant to various league tables and are published nationally so that prospective students can make informed decisions of where and what to study .

To make full use of the results we need to obtain a minimum of 50% of students completing the survey!

*Eligible students at Cambridge include predominately third year undergraduate students for the majority of Triposes. Students enrolled on four year programmes are surveyed in their 4th year. Affiliated students are surveyed in their 2nd year. NST students are surveyed at the end of Part II, rather than Part III. Medics and Vets are surveyed in the final year of their clinical course.

A World Leader

The Department of Sociology at the University of Cambridge is a world-leading centre for teaching and research in Sociology, consistently ranked first in UK league tables by The Guardian, The Times, and the Independent.
