The EU referendum is likely to have significant consequences for the economic and political fabric of the United Kingdom. The precise nature of these effects – and their magnitude - will depend on the political decisions taken in the near future in the light of this referendum. It is difficult to overestimate the gravity of the situation at hand.

The Sociology Department at Cambridge is amongst the most cosmopolitan and outward-looking in the world. Our academics, administrative staff and students come from all over the world; we remain committed to maintaining our cultural and ethnic diversity and the intellectual breadth which this diversity brings.

I would also like to draw your attention to the statement by the Vice-Chancellor of the University of Cambridge.

Professor Patrick Baert
Head of the Sociology Department
